Ardal

villageDraft

Drocani village of dark stone at the eastern foot of the Mount Oruco massif, on the pilgrims’ road.

Description

Ardal sits on a sandy ledge, right where the brown slope of the Dawn Range descends toward the northern coast. It is about twelve low houses of gray volcanic stone with reddish tile roofs, stepped beside a pale path that climbs west toward Mount Oruco. The smoke of its chimneys shows it from afar against the dark rock.

It is the last village before the climb: the Drocani who make the pilgrimage to the volcano set out from here. Its people live from the small livestock of the slopes, which they keep in stone pens, and in the cold months from barter with Albar.
