Almiar Marshes
regionDraft
Marshy delta of the Almiar River on the western coast of Cirda.
Geography and climate
Before it reaches the sea, the Almiar River spreads into channels that wind around islets of reeds and mud. The tides change the pattern of the channels from one year to the next. Only those who live there know which can be passed by boat. The waters hold fish and birds, and on the firm ground there are meadows that flood every winter.
On the outer edge of the delta, where the main channel reaches the sea, lies Marena, haven of pirates and smugglers. In the heart of the reed beds lives the village of Junqueda. To the south, the marshes end in a long beach that runs on to the desert; on it stands the Firepoint Lighthouse.
